SINGJAY Lisa Hyper is best known as a member of deejay Vybz Kartel’s Empire crew, but she is eager to step out of her mentor’s shadow with her debut album, The Rebirth.
The 15-track set is driven by Life Changes, which she did with Lady Saw.
“It was a pleasure collaborating with Lady Saw as everyone knows that she is the queen of the dancehall. She has a wealth of experience and has paved the way for us and I really admire how much she has given her all,” Lisa Hyper told Splash.
Hyper, whose real name is Felicia Gordon, says Life Changes reflects her maturity as a person and artiste since she was dismissed from the Empire camp three years ago.
“I have grown spirtually and the level of maturity is shown in my lyrics, voice and performance. I am really comfortable with where I am now,” she said. Lisa Hyper burst on the dancehall scene in 2007 as a member of the Empire. Her most popular songs are collaborations with Vybz Kartel such as Champion Bubbler, Wine Fi Mi and How Yu do it Like That.
Though she has kept a low profile since her expulsion from the Empire, Hyper is not in a hurry to make it big at all costs.
She added that for female entertainers to be as successful as their male counterparts, they need to stop the backbiting.
“Everyone wants to be the next dancehall queen and Lady Saw already owns that title. What we need to do is ensure that we record lasting music,” she said.
